- Lot Description
- Mostly pale silver-violet, but with rich gold and blue pastels at the borders, this beautifully pristine example exhibits a satiny cartwheeling complexion dancing across both sides. One of the scarcer issues in the commemorative half dollar series; the net mintage is only 2,100 examples after 2,900 were returned to the Mint for melting. The grade distribution for the 1938-D Boone Bicentennial is essentially a bell curve with most examples in the range from MS-64 to MS-66. MS-67 coins are elusive and pieces at the MS-68 level, as offered here, are extremely rare.
