- An enchanting example that really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. The surfaces support exceptionally vivid toning that is most striking around the reverse periphery, where one is treated to a halo of striking crimson-russet and fire-red colors. Russet, olive and silver-apricot patina dominates elsewhere, the obverse with a pronounced mottled distribution to the colors. The 1951-D is among the scarcer Franklin half dollars in Mint State and, as a roughly handled Denver Mint issue, most survivors are plagued by excessive bag marks. On the other hand, the typical example is well struck, so chances are good that if you locate an Uncirculated coin it will qualify as Full Bell Lines. One two such coins have been certified at the MS-67+ FBL, level, however, and the stunning condition rarity offered here also boasts phenomenal eye appeal. It will serve as a highlight in the finest Franklin half dollar set or collection of vividly toned silver.
