Lot Description
A stunning, high grade example of this popular date. First off, it is tied for FINEST graded with just one other piece. The 53-S is a classic rarity in the FBL designation, a five figure rarity in virtually any grade, and rarely seen in any grade finer than MS65 with FBL designation. As such, most collectors are relegated to finding a truly gorgeous non FBL example for their sets. While not FBL, this is a well struck and wonderfully preserved example with just a touch of weakness on the bell lines. Aside from that, the definition is striking and crisp. Wonderfully toned on the obverse, suffused in apricot and tangerine hues, mingling with hints of subtle iridescent pastel colors that come to life with the bold, brilliant, exquisite luster. There is just a touch of color on the reverse. Totally original and HIGH END, this coin has an eye appeal that is truly special to behold! PCGS 40, NGC 17, CAC 23. There are just TWO MS67+ examples at PCGS and the current PCGS Price Guide value is $3,600. This coin has sold twice in auction, once in the 2017 FUN auction for $3,055 and in our August 2020 Regency Auction for $2,585. Remember that in the FBL designation, nothing graded higher than MS65 has sold in two decades! This is a VERY IMPORTANT opportunity that should not be missed! Good luck! Cert.
