Lot Description

1858-C Liberty Half Eagle. MS-61 (PCGS). This is one of the handful of true Mint State coins known of this date, none of which have earned the Choice level from PCGS to date. Fully lustrous and well struck for a Charlotte Mint issue of the period, with especially crisp definition noted on the central design elements, and on the eagle's leg feathers and talons. The surfaces show a few scattered handling marks, but these are more than offset by the shimmering luster and obvious quality of overall presentation of this scarce Charlotte half eagle. A condition rarity that should not be overlooked by date or Charlotte Mint specialists.
