- Tompkins Die Stage 3/1. Lightly toned in silver gray, both sides also exhibit outlines of reddish-russet to many of the design elements, as well as iridescent undertones of champagne-pink and antique gold. Faint adjustment marks (as made) are concentrated along the upper right reverse border, the lower right obverse periphery also a bit softly defined. Otherwise this is a well struck and bold EF coin in a Flowing Hair half dollar. Lightly cleaned ages ago, the surfaces are curiously glossy in texture, but are free of sizeable or otherwise individually distracting marks. The readily available 1795 Overton-110 is one of the most popular type varieties in this brief and challenging early U.S. Mint silver series, and this one will fit comfortably into many collections.
