Lot Description

1898 Liberty Double Eagle. Proof-58 (PCGS). Remarkable orange-gold hues around the rims, with much of the reflectivity intact in the orange-peel fields. Scattered light handling marks from brief circulation, as this rarity obviously was spent at some point. With a mintage of 75 pieces in all in the Proof format, all are desirable and this example, while exhibiting handling marks, retains considerable eye appeal and will bring a price that many collectors can digest compared to a slightly finer example of this rare Proof double eagle.
