Lot Description: This lovely example retains much frosty luster, and the fields are appreciably semi-reflective. Bathed in bright honey-gold color, bold strike detail to the focal features provides further appeal. One of the most elusive No Motto Liberty Head eagles from the New Orleans Mint, the 1852-O has an extant population of fewer than 200 coins from a mintage of 18,000 pieces. It is the sixth rarest O-Mint issue of its type, a ranking it shares with the 1849-O. Mint State survivors are rare enough to be counted on one hand, their paucity placing extreme collector pressure on premium quality AU examples such as this offering. It is a coin that will serve with distinction in a specialized collection of Liberty Head eagles or Southern gold.
