Lot Description
Hy Kearny Consignment. Judd-60 features "coin alignment 1" which is attributed by the eagle on the reverse flying upward and left. Here is a terrific mid-grade example which, although much worn, features boldly outlined details and rather smooth surface texture. LIBERTY on the shield has only three letters readable (LI...Y), but prospective bidders are cautioned that the grading standards for a Gobrecht dollar depend very little on the number of letters visible (as, for example, the Barber series). Trivial planchet ticks appear here and there under strong magnification, while a single linear abrasion above the eagle's wings offers the only distraction on the reverse.
