- 1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Pine Tree Threepence. Noe-36, W-640. Rarity-4. Without Pellets. VF-30 (PCGS).
17.9 grains. A delightful example of this smallest Pine Tree denomination, with sedate antique gray surfaces enlivened by faint undertones in the glossy fields. Decently centered, obverse aligned trivially to 6 o'clock, affecting HVS at tops, reverse ideally centered. A thin planchet striation is noted at the second N of ENGLAND. A handsome and well-detailed example with no major flaws, with just minor evidence of handling commensurate with grade. Advanced die state with horizontal die crack above tree.
PCGS# 45366.
Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection. Purchased from Anthony Terranova.
