- Lot Description
- Carry A Tune Collection. 6 graded MS-66 RD, 2 higher at NGC. A much lower mintage for the 1931-S made that issue an instant key to the series, even though it was saved in roll numbers for posterity. Not so, the present 1931-D, which was largely ignored by collectors until the 1960s, when it began to be recognized as being much scarcer with full mint red and high-caliber preservation. Denver coins also tend to show inferior details. Still, this example features noticeable sharpness throughout, despite being struck from rather late dies. Lovely cherry-orange dominates the color scheme and presents no argument against the "RED" designation.
