1871 Octagonal 25¢. BG-717. Liberty Head. Rarity-3. MS-66 PL NGC. An exceptional Gem at every turn. The pale yellow-gold surfaces are alive with luster and whispers of olive brightness engage the mirrored fields and frosted motifs. This beautiful gold quarter dollar may just as well have been graded higher, for that’s how impressive this example is! Maker: Frontier & Co., 1864-1872. Edge: Plain. Die Alignment: 360 degrees or medal turn. Die State: III, “Again repolished: nose and front of coronet incomplete; many stars distorted; both cracks extending, others developing near 1st and 3rd stars; rust has obscured the stem of lower inside berry on right branch and simulates an extra outer berry at 8 o’clock.”
