Both sides are off center, the design drawn toward 7 o'clock on the obverse, 11 o'clock on the reverse, with the devices in those areas running off the planchet. We note several degrees spread between the impressions, with evidence for the double strike clearly seen at most design features, especially when the coin is observed with the aid of magnification. The surfaces are attractively original in a blend of autumn-brown and olive-copper with a hard, frosty texture. Minor marks define the grade, most of which are concentrated in the expansive right obverse field. We have seen a few major mint errors for this type over the years, but they are scarce in an absolute sense and enjoy strong demand among specialists.
