1863 Liberty Double Eagle. EF-40 (PCGS). Ranking third in both overall and high grade rarity among the 17 Type I double eagle issues from the Philadelphia Mint (per Doug Winter and Adam Crum, 2002), the 1863 is a scarce to rare find in all grades. We offer here a thoroughly appealing EF, both sides with dominant orange-khaki patina that yields to more vivid pinkish rose highlights at the borders. Largely free of individually distracting abrasions, with ample boldness of detail in the presence of overall light wear.
