Lot Description
1855 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-3+. EF-45 (PCGS). Lightly toned in golden-gray, both sides are boldly defined and appreciably lustrous for the assigned grade. Circulation strike silver dollars of the mid to late 1850s were used primarily in export trade, and these coins can be seen as predecessors to the specialized trade dollar introduced in 1873. With most of the 26,000 circulation strikes produced melted or otherwise lost overseas, the 1855 is understandably elusive in today's market. An above average circulated survivor, the significance of this coin for series specialists can hardly be overstated. Provenance: From the Lincoln Square Collection. PCGS# 6943. NGC ID: 24YU.
