Description du lot
1872 Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 2-B. MS-63 (NGC). Otherwise satiny in finish, the surfaces show some reflectivity in the fields under a light. Blushes of iridescent salmon-pink and steel-blue toning drift toward the right borders, the colors more pronounced on the obverse. With silver still absent from commerce in the East and Midwest at the time, the Philadelphia Mint produced only 182,000 circulation strike quarters in 1872. This issue is scarce to rare in all grades, and Mint State survivors such as this decidedly in the latter category with an impressive Rarity-6+ rating from Larry Briggs (The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters, 1991). NGC Census: 8; 9 finer (MS-67 finest). PCGS# 5481. NGC ID: 23UR. Click here for certification details from NGC.
