- Lot Description
- THE SAN DIEGO COLLECTION This GEM will end up being the highest graded O-116 sold in auction by a "+" as the finest listed in Stephen Herrman's AMBPR is a PCGS MS65 CAC that sold in August 2011, so even though this is a common variety, high end pieces rarely appear in auction! Intensely lustrous fields are aglow with a vibrant and vivid brilliance. Splashes of soft iridescent pastel blues and golds come to life as the cartwheels swirl over the satiny brilliant surfaces. Generally well struck and the only areas of weakness are typical for the die marriage. The eye appeal is excellent. PCGS 17, NGC 59 (all varieties), CAC 9. There are 3 in MS65+ at PCGS. The PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $12,500. A regular MS65 CAC sold in August 2021 for $8,400 and a PCGS MS66+ CAC sold in our sale of the Chicago Collection for $28,200 in our September 2021 Regency Auction. This PQ GEM will fit nicely in any superb type set or amazing date set of Capped Bust half dollars. Either way it will see spirited bidding when it crosses the block. Good luck. Cert.
