Lot Description

One of the most popular die marriages for the year, a die mark (Bowers notes "perhaps from a punch or from a stray piece of metal during the die making process" which made a raised mark that resembles an "I" after AMERICA. This is a very pleasing and ORIGINAL XF example that shows wonderful dove and icy-blue patina on both sides. Nicely struck throughout, this coin shows exceptional definition and eye appeal for the grade. PCGS 16, NGC 7, CAC 3. No CAC example has ever sold in auction, but this coin did sell back in the 2008 FUN auction for $4,313 - over a decade ago! The current PCGS value is listed at $4,500 and another non-CAC coin sold in the 2019 FUN auction for $4,080 (this coin is far finer!). Cert. Number 10955764 PCGS # 6892
