Lot Description
129.8 grains. Another premium quality Serpent Head, displaying full legends on a very attractive woodgrained medium brown planchet. The obverse shows denticles around the entire circumference, soft in areas but present, yet the die edge is still visible around the base of that side. The reverse shows the die edge and denticulated border at top, lightly doubled, as are some letters of the legend. NOVA is complete and the devices are bold. A little lamination is noted within the top of the shield, and a fissure runs through N of UNUM. Few marks are seen, some trivial hairlines, well preserved and showing exceptional aesthetic appeal overall. A little fleck of verdigris is seen at the tip of the shield. The die state is early, with no crack through the plow, only one between A of NOVA and C of CAESAREA, equivalent to SHI Die State 2. This well balanced, well struck, well preserved Serpent Head is ideal for the grade and would make a perfect addition to some lucky collector's cabinet.
