Beautiful, vivid surfaces in orange-golden offer nice contrast between satiny motifs and mirrored fields. John W. Dannreuther (2018) has identified two die pairings for this Proof gold dollar with 1,105 coins reported struck. Both share the same reverse die, leaving it to the obverse to different the varieties. The JD-2 is the scarcer among extant examples and identifiable by a twisted die line from the back of Liberty's mouth.
