Lot Description

117.2 grains. An uncommonly nice example of this popular variety. Beautifully glossy dark olive brown on the obverse with contrasting tan highlights on the sharply defined design elements, while the reverse is similarly toned and identically glossy, despite microscopic granularity. Struck from an early die state of the reverse with NIA still bold at right. A little striation is seen at R of VERMON, tiny rim nick on the reverse below 9 o'clock, natural planchet cutter gutter at upper right reverse. This piece is about as choice as this variety comes, easily in the top few percent of all survivors in terms of grade and visual appeal.
