Lot Description
1844-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. Winter Variety 1 (6-E), the only known dies. AU-58 (PCGS). Attractive medium-orange patina is further enhanced by a splash of reddish-rose tinting on the obverse over and around Liberty's portrait. General softness to the strike is characteristic of this challenging C-mint Quarter Eagle issue, although there is naught but light wear and wispy abrasions that confirm a short stint in active circulation. Plenty of bright, satiny luster remains, and it is flashiest when observed with the aid of a good light.
