A very nice piece, one that will please even a discerning numismatist. The surfaces are hard and frosty with a hint of reflectivity in the fields evident as the coin dips into a light. Both sides also offer handsome toning in dominant olive-brown with considerable steel-blue iridescence engaging the design elements. The strike is trivially off center to 1 o'clock on both sides, but only the border denticulation is affected, and most design elements are fully rendered and crisp. Minor planchet roughness remains in the centers, to no great detriment. This piece is perfect for the collector who seeks one nice Massachusetts half cent - the first ever coin with this denomination - for a colonial type set or preface to a collection of federal half cents.
