Lot Description
1878-CC Liberty Eagle. Winter 1-A, the only known dies. EF-45 (NGC). A leading rarity in the CC-mint Eagle series, Doug Winter and Jim Halperin (<em>Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint</em>, 2001) rank the 1878-CC third among the 19 issues in this mintmarked gold series in terms of total number of coins believed extant. One of just 3,244 pieces produced, the&nbsp;example we offer here is a very scarce EF with only light wear to generally bold-looking devices. A few reeding marks in the left-obverse field&nbsp;are worthy of mention, but we see no other sizeable or otherwise individually distracting abrasions. Handsome deep-rose patina throughout.
